After one 2-hour session, most beginners have a solid grasp of the basics and can get through a full game with support. Mastering the rules and strategy comes with ADDITIONAL lessons and Regular play — but the first session is always the most fun.

Our Team
Our Boston instructors are experienced American Mahjong teachers who have guided hundreds of beginners and private groups across Boston.
Arielle
Newport Beach, CA native and Bates College grad in commercial real estate. She learned to play through So Bam Fun itself, and loves teaching mahjong for its blend of strategy and social connection — helping people learn something new while bringing them together. Outside of mahjong: needlepoint, angel investing, and time with friends.
Caroline
Bolton, MA native and Hamilton College grad in sales for a health tech company. She learned to play from her college roommates, and loves the excitement of teaching beginners the moment mahjong clicks for them. Outside of mahjong: yoga and spending time outdoors.
Lauren
New Jersey native and Wake Forest grad who works in strategy. Her mom taught her in 8th grade, and she loves that every lesson is a chance to make new friends while helping more people discover the game. Outside of mahjong, she loves running.
